چکیده

The jointly optimum noncoherent receiver is obtained for multiuser communications in a frequency non-selective Rayleigh fading channel with NT transmit antennas per user and NR receive antennas. Based on a general analysis of quadratic receivers in zero-mean complex Gaussian vectors, we derive asymptotically (for high SNR) tight expressions for the pair-wise error probabilities for some cases of interest. This analysis yields the important result that the number of dimensions needed for each of the K users to achieve full diversity order N = NTNR is (K + 1)NT, which is independent of the size of the users’ codebooks. Our asymptotic analysis also yields a performance criterion to design noncoherent multiuser signals for space-time channels. We give an example of such a design. Gains in spectral efficiency are more difficult to realize for noncoherent (as compared to coherent) channels.

Noncoherent Multiuser Communications: Multistage Detection and Selective Filtering

We consider noncoherent multiuser detection techniques for a system employing nonlinear modulation of non-orthogonal signals. Our aim is to investigate near-optimum noncoherent multiuser detection techniques that utilize the received signal structure while retaining reasonable complexity. Near-optimum approximations of the maximum likelihood detector are investigated where the signal structure ...

A systematic approach to the design and analysis of optimum DPSK receivers for generalized diversity communications over Rayleigh fading channels

A generalized diversity channel is introduced that models a variety of wireless communication systems that use time, frequency, multipath, and/or antenna diversity with various interbranch correlations between signaling waveforms and the fading and additive noise processes. In the context of this general model, a systematic approach to the design and analysis of optimum noncoherent differential...

An error probability analysis of the optimum noncoherent multiuser detector for multipath and multiantenna diversity communications over Rayleigh-fading channels

The optimum noncoherent multiuser detector is obtained for generalized diversity symbol-synchronous communication systems that employ nonorthogonal multipulse modulation. A unified approach is adopted to simultaneously address various forms of diversity such as time, frequency, multipath, and/or receiver–antenna diversity. Upper and lower bounds on the average bit-error probability of the optim...
